Sam Akerman-Knopf
Sam Akerman-Knopf is a Senior Prototyping Associate at Protostudios. He primarily works with clients on robotics and embedded systems projects. He also has experience with operating machinery such as the KERN Laser, OMAX Waterjet, Stratasys 3D printers, and Vacuum former. Sam has 3+ years of experience designing models and assemblies for clients in Autodesk Fusion 360. He also holds the title for shop manager, where he organizes and maintains the machinery and tools in the various Protostudios room locations.
Sam is enjoying his Senior year at Iowa, studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics and American Sign Language, graduating Spring of 2025. Sam's career interests are in robotics and embedded systems, internet of things, designing mechanical and electrical systems, as well as machining and manufacturing. Sam's personal interests are organizing and participating in events with the Deaf community, where he utilizes his skills in American Sign Language. Sam also enjoys hobbies such as video game design and streaming, rock climbing, skateboarding, snowboarding, and hobbyist DIY projects.
